2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Overview

The 2023 S-Class is a four-door sedan with plenty of headroom and legroom in both rows to comfortably accommodate adult passengers. It has a decent-sized trunk with close to 14 cubic feet of storage space, which is adequate for a few carry-on bags. You can choose from three engine options throughout the lineup, all of which have plenty of power for this sedan. They include a turbocharged inline-six, a twin-turbo V-8, and a twin-turbo V-12 for maximum power.

Mercedes-Benz equips the S-Class with the broad range of infotainment and safety features you’d expect from a luxury vehicle. Even the base S 500 model has plenty of connectivity options for your electronic devices. There’s also a long list of standard driver assistance technology, such as automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, and a driver drowsiness monitor.

The S-Class comes in four trims: the 500, 580, Maybach 580, and Maybach 680. The MSRP ranges from $114,500 for the 2023 S-Class 500 to $229,000 for the Maybach 680. The price you pay for each trim may vary depending on any optional upgrades you choose. Let’s take a closer look at what each trim offers so you can decide which one is right for you.

S-Class 500

The base S-Class trim features a turbocharged inline-six engine, which puts out 429 horsepower. The powertrain also includes a nine-speed automatic transmission, and you benefit from all-wheel drive and an electric compressor. Inside the cabin, you get genuine leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and automatic climate control. A sunroof, ambient lighting, and an air fragrance system complete the opulent interior.

The S-Class 500 has an impressive array of infotainment technology to make cruising around Tyler even more enjoyable. There’s a 12.8-inch touch screen and a 12.3-inch instrument display to monitor your sedan’s performance. Other entertainment features include a 15-speaker stereo, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth®, and a navigation system. Mercedes-Benz has spared no expense on driver safety equipment, providing a surround-view parking camera, hands-free parking assist, and adaptive cruise control among its standard features.

Several optional upgrades are on offer, allowing you to make the cabin even more comfortable. You can add heated and ventilated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 30-speaker stereo. You can improve your ride quality by adding a road-scanning suspension, which monitors the road up ahead for bumps and adjusts to ensure a smoother ride.

If you’d like a plug-in hybrid model, you could opt for the 580e. It has the same standard features as the S-Class 500. However, the powertrain consists of a turbocharged inline-six engine and a plug-in hybrid system that combine to put out 510 horsepower. You can travel approximately 46 miles on all-electric power before the gas-powered engine takes over.

S-Class 580

The base price for the S-Class 580 is approximately $10,000 more than the S-Class 500. This extra money secures you a more powerful twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. This unit can put out 496 horsepower with a mild hybrid system. The remaining standard features are the same as the base S 500 trim.

The S 580 has all the same options available in the S 500. Some additional options are on offer, such as the executive rear-seat package. This package adds quad-zone automatic climate control, massaging rear seats with headrest pillows, a tablet in the central armrest, and a leg rest for the right rear passenger seat.

S-Class Maybach 580

The Maybach S 580 has a big price jump compared to the S 580, with an MSRP of $193,400. But it includes many more standard features, such as the executive rear-seat package described above. You also gain heated and ventilated rear seats, the 30-speaker stereo, and heated armrests. Second-row passengers can also enjoy their own entertainment system with two 11-inch displays on the back of the front seats. Four-wheel steering and 20-inch wheels enhance performance.

You can add even more style and comfort with some attractive optional upgrades. How about equipping your sedan with an onboard refrigerator and champagne glasses? The executive rear-seat plus package is even better than the standard package. It changes the layout to four seats and adds folding tray tables, heated and cooling cupholders, and a central console for the second row.

S-Class Maybach 680

The starting price for the top-of-the-line Maybach S 680 is $229,000. Choosing this trim gets you the incredible V-12 engine, which cranks out 621 horsepower. All the options available in the previous trims come standard in the 680, making it the perfect choice if you want to impress your friends or work colleagues. After all, you won’t find many other vehicles that allow your rear-seat passengers to relax with a glass of champagne in their hand while they’re cruising along the highway enjoying the monstrous power the twin-turbocharged V-12 supplies.
