The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC and the BMW X3 are excellent choices if you’re considering a compact luxury SUV. Both offer refined design and dynamic performance. But which one suits your lifestyle better? This article explores the key differences between the two SUVs in detail.  

Styling and Exterior Design

The GLC is a modern, sporty luxury vehicle with striking surfaces and precisely molded edges. Muscular proportions strike a balance between elegance and off-road capability. At the top of the lineup is the AMG® GLC 63 S E Performance, a plug-in hybrid with a combined output of 671 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

The BMW X3 offers two engine options. The base model has a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine that generates 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. If you want more performance, the X3 M50 xDrive has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that produces 393 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. 

Interior Design and Comfort

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC is luxurious and technologically advanced. The premium cabin materials include carbon fiber trims, soft-touch surfaces, and metallic accents. The dashboard has two large digital displays: a driver’s and a central infotainment screen that blend seamlessly into the sleek design. 

The GLC’s seats are sporty but comfortable, and extra bolstering can be added to improve support during spirited driving. Heated front seats are standard, and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats are available for added passenger comfort. The ambient lighting system is customizable, allowing you to set the tone with various colors. The panoramic sunroof fills the cabin with natural light to expand the overall impression of spaciousness. 

The BMW X3 prioritizes enhanced ergonomics and functional design elements. Its interior features high-end materials, including leather upholstery and wood or aluminum trim. 

The BMW Curved Display joins the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen elements to become the interior’s primary illuminating feature. The design enables easy access to every control. The base X3 model comes with adjustable front seats that can be positioned in ten ways, providing customizable support for extended drives. Rear-seat passengers have plenty of legroom and headroom. Heated front seats come standard, and ventilated and heated rear seats are available. 

Infotainment and Connectivity

The GLC features the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system that sets a new standard for infotainment and connectivity. This system includes an 11.9-inch touch screen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. It also includes advanced voice recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and optional augmented reality navigation that displays directions on the road ahead. The MBUX system also supports Dolby Atmos music streaming and third-party apps, which expands the available entertainment options. 

The 2025 BMW X3 comes with BMW’s iDrive 9 infotainment system, which includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a central curved display with a 14.9-inch touch screen. The system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice commands via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

Unlike the GLC, the X3 retains some physical controls for climate and audio settings, which may appeal if you value simplicity. BMW’s infotainment system has navigation and augmented reality overlays, but it is not as immersive as Mercedes’. Consider upgrading to a Harman Kardon or Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system for better sound quality. While connectivity is strong, it does not yet have 5G capabilities like the GLC.
