Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV Trim Comparison

May 5th, 2023 by

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is one of the most luxurious and best-performing all-electric SUVs in its class. If you’re in the market for a high-end SUV and considering the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, you’ll likely notice three different options. While you’re sure to love any version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, you may prefer one over the other.

In addition, each model is available in three different sub-trims: Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle. Each offers an impressive list of options for further customization. Of course, which model and upgrades you select determines the features it comes with, along with the final cost. With that in mind, we’ll explain the differences between the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV trim levels to help you select which is right for you.

Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450+ Premium

The base model of the Mercedes-Benz EQS is the 450+ Premium, which is a rear-drive electric SUV. Inside is an electric motor and battery pack that combine to produce 355 horsepower and 419 lb-ft of torque. Riding on an Airmatic suspension system allows the SUV to grip the road tightly when cornering. It also includes rear-wheel steering, reducing the turning radius to just 36 feet. When you want to venture off the beaten path, select the off-road mode, which adapts the suspension and powertrain for optimized performance.

With the included 107.8 kWh battery pack, you can expect to get around 305 miles of range per battery charge. The Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ also comes equipped with DC fast-charging capabilities, making it compatible with most public charging stations. Mercedes estimates it will take about 31 minutes to replenish the battery from 10% to 80%. With a Level 2 charger, it will take close to 12 hours.

Inside, the base model of the EQS SUV comes packed with features that create a comfortable and sophisticated atmosphere. Some standard features include heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, and a wireless device charging station. There’s also plenty of storage space throughout, such as a large bin below the center console and 31 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. You can also get the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV with an extra row of seats, but this will reduce the amount of cargo space you have available.

Finally, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ Premium has many standard technological innovations designed to make your driving experience safer and more enjoyable. For example, a 12.8-inch portrait-style touch-screen infotainment system lets you easily control various vehicle settings and your preferred media sources. Other standard entertainment features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a premium Burmester 3D surround sound audio system, and a digital gauge cluster. As for safety features, some of the standard inclusions are:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Automated emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control

Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450 4MATIC®

The EQS SUV 450 4MATIC® is essentially the same as the 450+, with one big difference. With the 450, Mercedes adds a second motor for the front axle, providing all-wheel drive (AWD) to the EQS. With the 4MATIC® AWD system, you’ll perform better on more challenging surfaces, such as when you take your SUV over snowy terrain or on off-road trails. Those looking for more vehicle control in these situations should consider opting for the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450 4MATIC®.

Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580

The final trim available is the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580, which includes everything from the 450+, the 4MATIC® AWD system, and more premium upgrades. For starters, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 features an auxiliary electric motor, which improves performance to a robust 536 horsepower and 633 lb-ft of torque. However, this added power will drain the battery faster, dropping the range slightly to 285 miles per charge.

A notable feature that comes standard in the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 and is available as an option for other models is Mercedes’ magnificent Hyperscreen. This astounding 56-inch single-glass screen covers the entire width of the dash with brilliant color OLED displays. Inside the Hyperscreen is a 12.3-inch digital display, a 17.7-inch center touch screen, and a 12.3-inch side-passenger touch screen. The Hyperscreen gives the interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 a sleek and futuristic style that elevates this SUV to a whole other level.

Finally, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 includes as standard all the features that are only optional upgrades on the 450. Some of these include the following:

  • Heated steering wheel.
  • Heated rear seats.
  • Heated windshield.
  • Noise-insulating glass.
  • Comfort headrests.
  • Adaptive rear-compartment lighting.
  • Rear side airbags.

Which Trim Is Best for You?

The great thing about the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is that you can’t go wrong with any of the trim levels. However, one may be a better fit for you than another. First, you’ll want to determine which interior features you want and how much more you’re willing to pay for them.

If you don’t need features such as the large Hyperscreen, a heated steering wheel, or upgraded performance, then you will likely love the base 450+ model. If you want the top-of-the-line version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, you’ll definitely want to explore the 580. Perhaps there are specific options you want, but you don’t need everything that comes with the 580. In that case, check out the sub-trim packages available for the 450+, as these will let you add certain features to the base model.

The MSRPs of the Mercedes-Benz EQS trim levels are as follows:

  • Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450+ Premium: $105,550.
  • Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450 4MATIC® Premium: $108,550.
  • Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 4MATIC® Premium: $125,950.
