Service A vs. Service B
Mercedes-Benz vehicle service schedules ensure that your beloved vehicle stays in ideal condition for many years. Two schedules offer convenience for Mercedes-Benz drivers: the Service A and Service B schedules.

These schedules reflect use related to the Mercedes-Benz model years 2009 and later. If your Mercedes-Benz vehicle is of the 2008 model year or earlier, please check your owner’s manual for maintenance schedule details. If your Mercedes-Benz vehicle has special parts or feature clusters specific to its model year or trim level, it may require specialized maintenance.
Check your owner’s manual and ask your dealer’s service professionals for details on special system maintenance. The Schedule A service list applies after one year of vehicle ownership or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. The Schedule A service list applies after 20,000 miles or two years, whichever arrives first.
The Schedule A Maintenance List
The Schedule A maintenance list includes the following:
- Oil filter replacement.
- Synthetic motor oil replacement.
- A comprehensive brake component inspection.
- Tire inflation and tire rotation.
- Full fluid check and correction for non-oil fluids.
Once these tasks are all taken care of, a service technician will reset the maintenance counter. The specific requirements beyond the above for Schedule A maintenance completion vary from vehicle to vehicle.
The service specialists will have a special list that fills the maintenance needs of your particular Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The need for Schedule A maintenance items comes around once every 20,000 miles after the initial 10,000. In other words, the service record is every 10,000, 30,000, 50,000, 70,000, 90,000, 110,000 miles, and so on.
The Schedule B Maintenance List
The Schedule B maintenance list includes:
- Cabin contamination filter replacement.
- Oil filter replacement.
- Tire inflation and rotation.
- Brake fluid change.
- Comprehensive brake component inspection.
- Synthetic motor oil replacement.
- Fluid checks and replacements for all other non-oil fluids.
As with the Service A list, your service technician will reset the maintenance counter once this list is complete.
As with the Service A list, our seasoned service staff will cover all of your Mercedes-Benz vehicle’s specific needs. This service list may need repeating every 20,000 miles. Codes will appear when your vehicle reaches specific maintenance thresholds.
Service A and Service B Code Display Meanings
Eight different display numbers can appear on your central display to indicate a need for a particular type of maintenance. A zero means your Mercedes-Benz vehicle needs a multi-point inspection. A one will prompt you for tire work, most likely rotation or replacement. In contrast, a numeral two means the cabin and engine air filters need replacement. A numeral three means the transmission fluid needs replacement. This numeral three is especially crucial, since neglecting transmission maintenance leads to a need for costly repairs. The numeral four means the timing belt, spark plugs, and valves need adjustment, repair, or replacement.
A numeral five means the fluid in the engine’s coolant tank needs replacement. A numeral six means rear differential fluid needs replacement, but not all vehicles have the related system. When you see the numeral seven, you’ll need to replace the brake fluid. Similar to the alert type at level three, the brake fluid notification is a crucial alert to prompt action on your part. If you allow your brake fluid to degrade or deplete, you will eventually lose the ability to stop your vehicle correctly. Avoid catastrophic possibilities by getting brake maintenance done as soon as possible.
